Meet The Man Who Lives In An Airplane Home

Can you imagine going for a walk in the woods when you suddenly find an airplane sitting right in front of you? When that happens, we’re sure you would be astounded by the discovery. Maybe you will even start wondering if there was a plane collision had taken place in the area. You may even begin wondering if you have walked into an old plane junkyard. However, there is no need to panic if you happen to be in Hillsboro, Oregon. In all likelihood, it simply means you have found the not-so-humble abode of a man called Bruce Campbell.

Campbell is definitely not the first or only person to have carved his home from an object intended for an entirely different purpose. Nope, there are plenty of people out there who have fashioned some rather bizarre homes as well. Homes on boats and cars might no longer sound all that crazy since we see them all the time. However, other people have resorted to using stranger things to fashion a home for themselves.

In numerous cultures around the globe, it is considered normal to make a living space in and within trees. Meanwhile, other people have decided to use building materials such as bricks, stone, straw, and mud. However, we have to admit that this is the first time we have heard of an airplane home.

Mind you, acquiring an airplane and then converting it into a house was definitely not easy for Bruce Campbell. The man in question had to go through various obstacles in the process. Aside from the legal requirements that surrounded the undertaking, it must have been exhausting to bring the huge aircraft to his neck of the woods. It might have even been more challenging to convert a Boeing 727 into a place that could serve as his own home! After all, an airplane was simply not made in a way that will make it easy to have a kitchen, living room, or bedroom. The thing you need to know, however, is that he is no ordinary man.

Bruce was actually an electrical engineer who has since gone into retirement. He is an inventive man, though that’s no surprise as you have to be one in order to upcycle something like a plane! He believes that airplanes hold more potential than their original use. He has a great imagination so he decided that he would save one from its scrap metal fate. Instead, Bruce took a piece of land and brought an airplane there to create one of the most unique homes on the planet. Let us now take a look at his journey!

Bruce Campbell might now be 64 years old, though the retired electrical engineer still has his creative vision intact. When he was a twenty-something, he purchased a 10-acre parcel of land in Hillsboro, Oregon for the price of $23,000! It was deep in the forest but he already had a clear idea what to do with it.
