Being a parent is a hard enough job, but being a parent and serving in the army is double the pressure. Tomas was devastated to leave his family all the time but was also intent on serving his country. He wanted to make them proud.

While he was serving he always longed to be with his daughter and wife. It made it easier that she was being taken care of but it was still difficult. At home, his wife was also struggling and missed him so deeply.
