Augusta National Green Jacket
In the world of pro golf, one of the biggest competitions is called the Master’s Tournament. It is held in Augusta, Georgia. The winner gets to bring home the Augusta National Green Jacket, which the Georgia club members don on the premises. However, only the champion is allowed to wear it in public. When a journalist saw the club logo on a green jacket at a thrift store in Toronto, he purchased it right away. The price tag only said $5, but he knew that it was worth more than that. He eventually sold it. Twenty years later, the jacket went for an incredible $139,349 at an auction.
Lost Pollock Painting
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is hard to deny that this is the case here. Even though Teri Horton thought the painting was rather ugly, she bought it as a gag gift for a friend. It cost her $5. Her pal did not have space for the huge canvas, which was 5.5 feet by 4 feet big, so Horton took it home. She eventually tried to sell it, but an art teacher told her that it could be a Jackson Pollock piece. After that, she went to authenticators to check if this were the case. The experts have proven that it is an original artwork by the abstract painter. Horton even appeared in a documentary about it!
